As parts of the globe had been affected by brutally hot temperatures in July once again, climate scientists warned that the heat waves over communities wouldnt go anywhere soon. It is a must for world leaders to take action to stop them from becoming the “new normal.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the world had reached an “era of global boiling,” just as the G20s environment ministers were set to meet to discuss work on climate change. But Guterres said world leaders must enact changes quickly and put forward ambitious targets to reduce emissions to stop the heating trend.

“Climate change is here. It is terrifying, and it is just the beginning,” he told reporters in New York. “No more hesitancy, no more excuses, no more waiting for others to move first. There is simply no more time for that.” The push from Guterres is not new, but atmospheric physicist Kent Moore told Global News that although the words could be seen as alarmist, theyre still needed.

“Its really important to drive home that were now in a very different state than I think we thought we would be,” he said. “This is the new normal, but we can control what the next new normal will be.” Moore cited recent comments by the Met Office in the UK which said that the record temperatures seen in 2022 would be considered “average” by 2060 and even “cool” by the end of the century. “In the near future, within 30 years, which is not a long time, this will be a typical summer,” he said.

He added research by the World Weather Attribution found the heat waves impacting North America and southern Europe would have been “virtually” impossible without climate change, and what would normally occur in the US every 15 years is happening much more often.

根據(jù)材料倒數(shù)第二段中的“the record temperatures seen in 2022 would be considered ‘a(chǎn)verage by 2060 and even ‘cool by the end of the century”,我們可知2022年的創(chuàng)紀(jì)錄氣溫有可能是2060年的平均氣溫,到21世紀(jì)末甚至有可能屬于“涼爽”的溫度。故選B。

4. A。解析:細(xì)節(jié)理解題。材料最后一段中的“heat waves impacting North America and southern Europe would have been ‘virtually impossible without climate change”指出了氣候改變帶來(lái)的影響,再結(jié)合材料第二段最后一句“對(duì)于氣候改變,世界各國(guó)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人必須迅速制定改革方案”,我們可以看出,此處提到北美和南歐地區(qū)的熱浪是為了提升人們應(yīng)對(duì)氣候變化的意識(shí)。故選A。
