Everybody knows that eating carrots is good for our eyesight. A new studysuggests that grapes are also good for our eyes. Researchers from the NationalUniversity of Singapore have found that eating just a few grapes a day can help oureyesight. This is good for people who are older.
Dr. Eun Kim, the lead2 researcher, said, “Our study is the first to show thatgrape consumption3 is good for eye health of humans, which is very exciting,especially4 with more people who are getting old.”
She said that grapes are easy to buy and studies have shown they can do muchgood to our eyesight. This is good news for people who don’t really like carrots.
Thirty-four people took part in a number of tests over 16 weeks in the study.Half of them ate one-and-a-half cups of grapes every day; the other half ate asnack5. Dr. Kim did not tell anyone whether she was testing the grapes or thesnack. She thought that it would give better test results.
She found that people who ate the grapes had improved muscle strength6around the retina7. The retina passes information about light to the brain byelectrical signals8. It protects9 the eyes from bluelight which is bad for our eyes. A lot of blue lightcomes from computer and smartphone screens10, andfrom LED lights.
