most一詞既可用作形容詞,也可用作副詞和名詞。本文結(jié)合一些實(shí)例對(duì)most的基本用法作一概述:
一、形容詞most可用作many, much的最高級(jí),意為“最多的”、“最高程度的”,后面可跟可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式或不可數(shù)名詞;形容詞most可表示“多數(shù)的”、“大部分的”、“多半的”等意思,后面可跟可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)形式。例如:
He wants to get the most votes in the election.

二、most用作副詞時(shí),有下面幾種用法:
1. 常置于兩個(gè)音節(jié)以上的形容詞或副詞之前,并與其一起構(gòu)成該詞的最高級(jí)形式。例如:
Which lesson is the most difficult in this book?
這本書(shū)里哪一課最難?
Li Ying writes (the) most carefully of the three.
三個(gè)人中李英寫(xiě)得最認(rèn)真。
2. 表示“極”、“很”、“十分”、“非?!钡纫馑?,用來(lái)強(qiáng)調(diào)或加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣。在這種情況下,most前面不用定冠詞the。例如:
This is a most useful book. 這是一本極其有用的書(shū)。
Thats most kind of you. 你心腸真好。
We shall most certainly come. 我們一定來(lái)。
3. 表示“幾乎”、“差不多”等意思,相當(dāng)于almost/nearly。例如:
Most everybody talks about it. 幾乎每個(gè)人都在談?wù)摯耸隆?
She goes to the shop most every day. 她幾乎天天去商店。
三、most用作名詞,其意為“最大量”、“最多數(shù)”、“最高額”、“大多數(shù)”、“大部分”、“大多數(shù)人”。例如:
