Interviewer A: Well, were pretty certain our next guest will be on our screens for many, many years to come. At just 15 years old, Chlo? Grace Moretz has already starred in an Oscar-winning movie and has won all sorts of awards.
Interviewer B: Her latest role brings her 1)up close and personal with Johnny Depp in Tim Burtons version of Dark Shadows.
Interviewer A: Chlo?, I saw the movie yesterday and very good it was indeed, based on a very famous TV series. For those who arent familiar with Dark Shadows, just 2)give us a flavour of what its about.
Chlo? Grace Moretz: Well, it was a daytime soap opera in America, and its actually one of the longest-running soap operas in American history. So it went on from about I think 65 to like 72.
Interviewer A: And, of course, gave you the opportunity to work very closely alongside Johnny Depp. Im sure youre the envy of many girls around the world. Whats he like to work with?
Chlo?: Hes amazing. You know, hes one of the most humble guys you could ever work with.
Interviewer B: You play a moody teenager.
Chlo?: I do.
Interviewer B: Easily?
Chlo?: Easily. For the sake of my mom seeing this? No.No. Uhm. Yeah. I mean, I guess, yeah, its one of the roles I could relate to the most, cause were the same age and dealing with barely the same things, like, except for with her…she has a much darker secret.
Interviewer A: And she also has, thanks to Tim Burton, a very cool bedroom, which Id imagine is the envy of teenagers everywhere. What was it like when he showed you the…the bedroom where we first see you?
Chlo?: Well, it was one of the first days on set, and he was, like, “Do you want to go see your room?” And I was, like, “Yeah, of course!” thinking itll be like some cool kind of bungalowy [sic] type thing. I walk in and its this purple, 3)psychedelic 70s kind of hippie room with the shag carpet and, like, a hanging seat. And it just…it was completely Tim Burtonized, you know, you imagine already a psychedelic 70s.
Interviewer B: Well, we had the UK premier of the film last night. As you know Johnny Depp and the director Tim Burton, who were particularly complimentary about you, youll be delighted to hear.
Johnny Depp: Chlo?s amazing. Shes a real, first of all, shes a real pro, and shes also, shes also a…a very, very interesting actress.
Tim Burton: Its very rare to meet somebody whos got such a…a strong sense of themselves and what they want to do and do interesting things, and I love her.
Chlo?: Uhm, Im just gonna try and keep truckin, you know, 4)keep takin a stab at it. I mean, I just, you know, I love what I do, and Ive been so far so blessed to be able to work with such amazing directors and actors and, you know, uhm, 5)well see what the cards deal me [sic].
Interviewer B: It is very much a family affair, isnt it? I mean, tell us a little bit about your family background. As I understand it your mom was a nurse, your dad was a 6)plastic surgeon. And your brother, hes sittin over there.
Chlo?: Yeah!
Interviewer B: Hes one of your advisors.
Chlo?: Yup. Yup. My brother is my…
Interviewer B: What does he do for you?
Chlo?: Hes my acting coach/brother, so hes been working with me since he was 15 and I was 5.
Interviewer B: And do your family remain, not on top of you…in your career, but, I mean, obviously…keeping a close eye on you.
Chlo?: Theyre incredibly…yes, incredibly protective. My family is…is very involved in my career and very involved in my personal life, and were 7)thick as thieves for sure.
Interviewer B: How do you actually sort of figure the…the schooling as well as the acting? I mean, how…h(huán)ow do you rock and roll the two of those?
Chlo?: Well, Ive been doing home school since I was in 4th grade, so since I was about, like, nine, and its, yeah its great, you know, I go through 8)Laurel Springs and Ive had the same tutor for about eight years, and then when Im not working, my mom tutors me.
Interviewer A: And a lot of…you spent a lot of the last two and a half years in Britain because much of Hugo was shot here and Dark Shadows was shot in Britain too. How do you like London, and, you know, presumably Londons become a bit of a home for ya, has it?
Chlo?: Oh yeah, I mean, I was talking to my brother as we were driving in from Heathrow, and just…just driving in it was completely 9)nostalgic because Id lived here for so long.
Interviewer B: Because it was raining.
Chlo?: Yeah, exactly, no, I was like, “Oh, thats just, its so 10)Londony when you come and its raining.” Then, you know, the beautiful greenery, and its just oh and you know and when you drive through 11)Hyde Park, its just, its really one of the most amazing feelings London has.
Interviewer B: The crucial point, the most difficult question for you this morning is what was your favorite sweet? Weve been asking people all morning about what…what their favorite sweet or drink was as a child at school, what their…what their memories are. Whats yours?
Chlo?: It would have to be either Chip-a-chips—12)Chupa Chups, (Chupa Chups), Chupa Chups or 13)Nutella, for sure. Nutella.
Interviewer A: Oh, the chocolate spread. Chocolate spread. Yeah.
Chlo?: Yes. So good.
Interviewer B: Well, lovely to meet you. All the very best with your career.
Chlo?: Thank you.
