Some deem[認(rèn)為] Im gentle， some Im kind：

It may be so， —I cannot say.

I know I have a simple mind

And see things in a simple way；

And like a child I love to play.

I love to toy with[擺弄] pretty words

And syllable[分成音節(jié)] them into rhyme[押韻]；

To make them sing like sunny birds

In happy droves[一大群] with silver chime[（樂器）敲鐘]，

In dulcet[怡人的] groves[小樹林] in summer time.

I pray， with hair more white than grey，

And second childhood coming on，

That yet with wonderment[驚嘆] I may

See life as in its lucent[明亮的，透明的] dawn，

And be by beauty so beguiled[令人陶醉]

Ill sing as sings a child.

有人說我溫和，有人說我仁慈：

或許是如此吧，我卻不能言說。

我知我心單純

簡(jiǎn)簡(jiǎn)單單看世事；

喜愛嬉鬧如孩童。

我愛隨意使用漂亮的詞語

把它們編排成韻律；

讓它們像明媚歡樂的鳥群

在夏日怡人的樹林中，

用銀鈴般的歌聲歌唱。

我祈愿——在白發(fā)多于灰發(fā)，

即將到來的第二個(gè)童年，

我還能帶著驚嘆

看到生命之初清明透亮的模樣，

也愿美深深地迷住我

我必像孩童一樣歌唱。
