There are lots of reasons to love a food festival. Whenever there’s one in Melbourne, I think about going.
A few weeks ago, I went down to the Night Noodle Markets after work with my colleagues. It was an outdoor food festival, a grassy1)patch at the edge of the city, serving up all kinds of Asian street food you can think of. When the eight of us arrived at a quarter to six,2)a sea of people greeted our eyes. Tables are3)packed. Queues are in front of the4)food stalls where chefs5)dished up food right before our eyes.
We go to food festivals because it’s a chance for us to6)give in to our love for food. It’s a time for us to7)indulge our food8)cravings. We go to food festivals for the food, for our old favorite foods and the foods we’ve always wanted to try. As my colleagues and I made our way past the entrance, dozens of different9)gastronomic10)aromas hit us from everywhere. There is11)mouthwatering Asian street food everywhere. What shall I eat? Everything!

We visit food festivals for a12)one of a kind dining experience that doesn’t come by all the time. Not often do we get the chance to choose from a dozen or more cuisines for a meal or to eat outdoors under the sky. As my colleagues settled themselves on the grass at one corner, I wandered around on my own with smoky barbeque taste13)lingering in my mouth.
We love going to food festivals because it’s a time to14)unwind and15)soak up the spirit of love. It’s an occasion to go out with those we know and enjoy each other’s company over food. After twenty minutes of walking around the Noodle Market, I made my way back to my colleagues. Just before I sat down on the grass, the16)boisterous colleague Julien waved a paper plate of two17)greasy chicken wings in the air: “We saved some for you! Take it! Take it!”
Yes, we love food festivals because they touch us deep down inside. They are18)emotional experiences. They take us to another place, maybe on a trip down the19)memory lane.
Of course, there are also sour and stressful moments at food festivals. You will experience long queues for food and also the expensive, small20)servings of foods. What’s more, the endless hunt for a place to sit.
Four days after this post-work outing, I found myself back at the Night Markets to try more food, getting my fingers23)sticky with sauce this time. Standing on top of the highest point of the Night Markets, I had a bird’s eyes view of it all: kids, grown-ups in suits, faces of different colors. Most of Melbourne had turned out. I smiled.
Food festivals make us feel alive. It’s not just about the food. Going to food festivals, we see a bit more about our culture, and a bit more of the world too.

熱愛一個美食節(jié)的理由有很多。每當墨爾本舉辦美食節(jié),我都想要去看一看。
幾周以前,我與同事在下班后去了趟面食夜市。那是個在城市邊緣的一塊草坪上舉辦的戶外美食節(jié),提供著各式各樣你所能想到的亞洲街頭小吃。當我們一行八人在五點四十五分到達時,眼前盡是一片人海。桌上擺滿了美食,小吃攤前也排著長隊,廚師們正忙著起鍋上菜。
我們參加美食節(jié),是因為它對我們來說是一個能表達對美食熱愛的機會。它能讓我們盡情滿足著自己對食物的欲望。我們去美食節(jié)是為了美食,為了我們的心頭好美食,以及那些我們一直想要嘗試的食物。當我和我的同事們成功進入入口時,幾十種不同的美食香味從四面八方向我們襲來,到處都是讓人垂涎欲滴的亞洲街頭小吃。我應該吃什么?所有的食物!
我們參加美食節(jié)也是為了享受某種獨一無二的就餐體驗,那種體驗可不是常常會有的。我們并不常有機會在某一餐中選擇十來種甚至更多的菜肴,也不會經常在天空下的戶外就餐。當我的同事們坐在草坪上的一角時,我獨自四處游蕩著,煙熏燒烤的味道在我嘴里揮之不去。
我們喜歡去美食節(jié),因為這是個讓人放松下來和感受愛的時間,也是我們通過美食與熟悉的好友外出,并享受彼此陪伴的一個場合。在面食夜市里晃蕩了20分鐘后,我走回到了我的同事那兒。正當我準備在草坪上坐下時,我那喧鬧的同事朱利恩揮動著裝有兩個油膩雞翅膀的紙盤子,并說道:“我們留了一些給你哦!快吃!快吃??!”
是的,我們喜歡美食節(jié),因為美食節(jié)觸動著我們的內心深處,這是一種情感上的體驗。美食節(jié)會帶著我們去往另一個地方,或許正是帶我們去感懷往事吧。
當然了,在美食節(jié)上也會有緊張和令人失望的時刻。你得排著長隊去領取那又貴又小份的食物。更重要的是,你要沒完沒了地尋找個能坐下的地方。
每當去參加一個美食節(jié),我們都五味雜陳。我們期待著品嘗美味的食物,我們也期望著能夠吃頓大餐。畢竟,每個美食節(jié)總會有著這樣那樣的口頭宣傳廣告。
在那次下班外出后的第四天,我又開始在夜市里尋覓更多的美食了,這一次手指上沾滿了醬汁。站在夜市的最高點,我鳥瞰著大地:那兒有孩子、穿著西裝的成年人,還有各種不同膚色的面龐。大半個墨爾本盡收眼底,我不禁露出了笑容。
美食節(jié)使我們感到活力十足,它不再僅僅是關于食物了。在美食節(jié)里,我們可以看到自己文化的剪影,以及整個世界文化的縮影。
