The Application of Task—based Teaching Approach to oral English class in college

【Abstract】The Task-based Teaching Approach had bring up by the researcher through their research and practice in sixties of 20th century. In my thesis I am lay stress on analyze and discuss the application of the Task-based Teaching Approach to oral English class in college. And bring up how to apply the Task-based Teaching Approach to oral English class in university. Thereby, improve the level of their oral English.

I. Introduction

With the development of economic, oral English become more and more important. Task-based Teaching Approach had emerged the fascination because of its special teaching philosophy, it becomes more important and it also have a high position in the teaching world.The Task-based Teaching Approach is a pattern of language teaching that have important influence. The Task-based Teaching Approach had bring up by the researcher through their research and practice in sixties of 20th century. The current situation of the oral English teaching in university is not very optimistic. The oral English teaching of students had stay at the traditional pattern. The students have poor ability to use English to communication.The oral English is quite weak. The teaching had ignored the ability of students to communication with English. The result is the students cant use English to express their mind in words.

II. Literature Review

Task-based Teaching Approach is widely promoted in English language teaching nowadays. Many teachers are asking ‘What is Task-based Teaching Approach? How is Task-based Teaching Approach different from Communicative Language Teaching? Task-based Teaching Approach is, in fact, a further development of Communicative Language Teaching. It shares the same beliefs, as language should be learned as close as possible to how it is used in real life.

III. The Application of Task-based Teaching Approach to oral English class in college

The current situation of the oral English teaching in college is not very optimistic.The oral English teaching of students had stay at the traditional pattern, the students have poor ability of communication with English.The oral English is quite weak, in great classes teaching had ignored the ability of students to communication with English.The result is although the students study English for mang years, they were grasped many English words and grammer, but in the real life they are difficult to use English by oral to express their mind, we usually see the phenomenon that students have done their homework and examination test well, but in class they are not answer questions actively, and we also usually see some studentsresult of written examination is good, but oral English is very bad.In communication activity, some studentsthought is good, but when express by oral English, just not express as a whole.There stillhave some students can speak English fluently and thought promptly in free conversation.

Task-based teaching Approach divided into three parts, they are Pre-task, Task-cycle, Post-task.

First step:pre-task:It including topics and tasks. Give the teaching aims to the students, then let the students to interested in and discuss the topic or lesson. At this stage, teachers soliciting task with students to explore the topic, highlighting useful words and phrases, and help students understand the task instructions and prepare task, at which students can listen to other people doing similar task recording.

Second step: Task-cycle: including task, plans and reports.the teacher can design several tasks, to make a task-cycle.To let the students finish the task by herself or by a group.to improve the applying ability of practical language. At this stage, students in teams to carry out its mandate, and then students of each group in the form of verbal or written report on completion of task, and finally reported the results of comparison through the Task-cycle to the whole class.

Third step: Post-task: Including the analysis and drills. Ask the students to use the original knowledge and view to complete the communication task. Most of the activities are Group Discussion and Role Acting. Different level students give different level task. Students to analyze the implementation of other groups and some language features in the task at recording, analysis, or analysis, under the guidance of teachers practice the new vocabulary, phrases and sentence.

IV. Conclusion

Task-based Teaching Approach embodies the essence of student-centered, full play the role of teachers, it is worth trying to application Oral English Teaching in college. it is ensure that students can communicate with each other in a real relaxed environment, At the process of completion the task to training oral skills, improve their verbal communication skills, develop their own initiative, Cultivate the ability of identify problems and problem-solving to enhance the oral English study effectively. Task-based Teaching Approach is a people-oriented, it can embody the value of an effective way of language, in line with the actual high school students.
