The Qingming Festival, or Tomb(墳?zāi)梗?sweeping(清掃)Day, is a traditional(傳統(tǒng)的)festival in Chinese culture. It usually falls on April 4th to 6th each year.
The Qingming Festival is an important festival for Chinese families to sweep tombs. It is an activity(活動)for paying respect to(向……表達敬意)the dead. People would clear away weeds(野草)and build up(增大)the tombs with new soil(土壤). They would bring things like food, fruit, wine and spirit money(紙錢)to the tomb site(地點). They place the food, fruit and wine before the tomb, and burn spirit money.
Qingming is also one of the Chinese 24 solar terms(節(jié)氣). After the festival, the temperature(溫度)will rise(升高)and rainfall(降雨)increases(增加). The working people in the old days used it to guide their farm work. It’s the important time for farmers to plow(耕地)and sow(播種).
Qingming is a time when plants turn green in bright and warm sunshine. It is a fine time to go out and enjoy the beauty of nature. Chinese people love going for a spring outing and flying kites during the Qingming Festival. These activities are very popular with children and teenagers(青少年).
