Eastern Zhejiang School, a general name for Confucian scholars in Zhejiang in history, started in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Over centuries, it evolved and became prominent. The scholars of this school cut brilliant figures in the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911). It is rare to see such a successful school in the history of Chinese academic studies that lasted so long and contributed so many scholars. Their influences have reached Japan and South East Asia. This issue of Cultural Dialogue provides a multiple perspective on the school.
