A teenage boy loved playing American football very much, but as the shortest of the class, he was always “warming the bench”. He had a loving and encouraging father. He was always in the stands cheering. He never missed one of his son's football games and at the end of each game, he would tell the young boy that if he stuck to his dream, he would go to play in the game next time and win.
When the boy entered high school, his father continued to encourage him and made it very clear that he did not have to play football if he didn't want to. But the young man loved football and decided to keep on. He tried his best at every practice, and believed perhaps he'd get to play when he became a senior. All through high school he never missed a practice but still remained a bench warmer for all three years. Even so, his faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him.
When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a “walk-on” role. Everyone was sure he could never succeed, but he did. The coach admitted that he was kept on the roster (候選名單) because he always put his heart and soul to every practice and, at the same time, provided the other members with the spirit they badly needed. The news that he had made the cut thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and encouragement. Undoubtedly, this persistent young athlete never missed a practice during his four years at college. He practiced passing, blocking and tackling, but still he never got to play in the game.
Soon, the end of his senior football season arrived. It was Saturday. Wearing his football gear, he sat on the bench as a substitute player. As usual, his father was in the stands cheering. The game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, the silent young man suddenly stood up and ran to the sidelines.

”推薦的句子為“Daddy, thanks for your encouragement and you are right. As long as I stick to my dream, it will come true some day.”。
