In New York, on a Friday night, a poor young artist stood at the gate of a train station. He was playing the violin. His music was so great that many people put money into his hat.
The next day, the young artist came to the same place and played the violin as usual. Different from the day before, he took out a piece of paper and put it on the ground. The paper read, “Last night, a man named George Sang put an important thing into my hat by hand. Please come to get it soon. ”After about half an hour, an old man ran there in a hurry, “Oh, its you. You did come here. ”The young artist asked, “Are you Mr. George Sang?” “Yes! Yes!” the old man answered. Then the artist asked calmly, “Did you lose anything?” “ Lottery(彩票). Its the most valuable lottery in my 70 years of life, ” said the man. The artist took out a lottery ticket. George Sangs name was on it, so the artist gave it to him, the owner (主人)of the lottery.
Later someone asked the artist, “Since you had to play the violin every day to make your tuition (學(xué)費(fèi))in the university, why didnt you keep the lottery ticket for yourself?”
The artist said, “ Although I dont have much money, I live happily, but if I lose honesty (誠實). I wont be happy forever. ”
In our lives, we can get a lot and lose so much. But being honest should always be with us. If we act in a dishonest way, we may succeed in a short time. However? from the long-term view, we will be a loser.
