The Tianjin Petrochemical Company (TPC) has completed the process design package of a 1000 t/a unit for hydrogenation of bisphenol A to make a firm step towards localized manufacture of hydrogenated bisphenol A (HBPA).

HBPA is the main feedstock for manufacture of epoxy resins. Till now the production of HBPA is mainly concentrated in foreign companies, and the efforts to manufacture HBPA domestically are obscured owing to the existing technological gap. However, the HBPA product developed successfully by TPC has been tested in the downstream industry chain of SINOPEC Group. The test results have revealed that this HBPA product showed excellent performance to be capable of substituting for the imported product. The Research Institute of TPC owns the independent intellectual property rights of the said HBPA technology.
