The project for commercial application of the silver catalyst YS-9010 at the Shanghai Petrochemical Company has passed the appraisal. The experts attending the appraisal meeting have unanimously recognized that this test has made a breakthrough to attain a catalytic selectivity of 90% along with providing a technology to quickly increase the catalyst selectivity and shorten the acclimation period, making the comprehensive performance of this catalyst comparable to the international advanced level.

This project has been jointly undertaken by the Shanghai Petrochemical Co. (SPC), the SINOPEC Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry, the SINOPEC Catalyst Branch Company, and the Yangzi Petrochemical Co., with their main aim to carry out the commercial application tests of the silver catalyst YS-9010 in the #1 ethylene glycol unit at SPC in order to check if this catalyst tested under commercial production conditions can reproduce its performance obtained during the laboratory tests to meet the requirements for domestic production of silver catalyst with high selectivity for ethylene oxide. The operating parameters have revealed that this catalyst has high activity to crank out ethylene glycol with stable quality, and the process unit has been operating smoothly with the catalyst selectivity exceeding the guaranteed value, which is better than that of the existing catalyst YS-8810.
