On October 8, 2018, the Hualu Hengsheng Chemical Stock Co., Ltd. (HHCSC) in Shandong made an announcement that all facilities of its 0.5 Mt/a ethylene glycol unit had been operating smoothly at 70% of full load, while cranking out quality product (with the premium quality compliance rate reaching 100%) to symbolize that the unit was entering a trial production stage

After HHCSC in collaboration with the Ningbo Zhongke FareastTech Catalytic Engineering Co., Ltd. had studied in 2015 the technology for indirect production of ethylene glycol (EG) from syngas purified by the Rectisol process, the construction of a 500 kt/a EG unit was commenced by the end of 2016. It is learned that this is the f irst large-scale EG unit built with the self-owned proprietary technology in China. The process facilities of the EG unit have been locally fabricated, featuring a short start-up time and low energy consumption, with the unit running smoothly to achieve good process performance parameters. At present HHCSC is optimizing the operating regime and adjusting the production indicators to gradually increase the production load.
