The whole subject of happiness has,⑥in my opinion, been treated too solemnly莊嚴(yán)地.
It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion.
Perhaps those who have been rendered使變得unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recover, just as you may need a tonic滋補(bǔ)品when you have been ill.
But when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory.

Man is an animal, and his happiness?depends onhis physiology more than his thoughts.

It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion.
“it+be+過去分詞 +that...”句型??赊D(zhuǎn)換為“主語 +be+過去分詞 +to do”的句型。
It was reported that two men were killed in the traffic accident yesterday.
=Two men were reported to be killed in the traffic accident yesterday.
