During the epidemic in Wuhan, Philton Solomona, a Samoan student studying music performance at Central China Normal University wrote two songs, “My Wuhan” and “Thank you,” to express his feelings for Wuhan and sincere gratitude towards the medics who came to help.
When asked about his motivations to write the two songs, he said, “Part of my heart will always be with Wuhan in this difficult time of lockdown. As the musicians from Wuhan, we all want to write a song for the city. I know I’m not the only one.”
He has been following the news about the epidemic in other countries, especially in places where his friends and family are in. “As a musician and a student in the world of music, I try to put all I want to say in my music. I would like to thank all the medical workers from other fields out there. They are doing an amazing job and I think they deserve to be remembered in history.
“Wuhan and its people have been through a tough time and are now reviving. I believe that they can and will be able to get back on their feet. I’m proud of Wuhan and the people here.
“I am also overjoyed that Wuhan has opened up again and I pray that there will be no second surge of this epidemic here in China. I cannot wait to get back to my favorite city in China and get back to my school.”

My Wuhan
Singer | Benjamin Solomona [Samoa]
Music & Lyrics | Philton Solomona [Samoa]
Empty roads
Not a sign on the street-walks
Not the sound of the place
that I know
Of people rushing everywhere
Spring is here
But not a sign of festive cheer
Christmas lights are still hung high
Along closed doors and windows
People afraid of what they
cannot see
A mystery
Who knew that this could
spread so easily
And take life from
My Wuhan
We’ll make it to better days
We’ll watch this storm go away
And take all this pain away
and bring life back to
My Wuhan
We’ll watch the sun rise again
We’ll make the streets loud again
‘Cos this is where I stay
Can you believe it
We’re almost there
We’re gonna beat it
And bring life back again oh
Life may never be the same
But we must stay strong
And live for those who can’t
And bring what life we can to
