The large number of trees near famous Byron Bay plantedby local conservation group Bangalow Koalas, are a lifeline2 forkoalas and many other animals. The group works hard to getthem away from humans, from cars, from dogs. The koala willdie out in the wild in NSW by 2050. Some of the biggest threats3 are wildfires, habitat loss4 and land clearing fordevelopment. Started in 2019, Bangalow Koalas has planted over 336,000 trees. It isgoing to plant 500,000 trees by 2025. It is reported that the number of koalas hasdropped 50% in Queensland and 62% in NSW.
