Preventing an Elderly from Falling Accident

Nurse: Did you have your supper in a restaurant last night? What kind of foods did you have?
Patient: Yes. I had my dinner last night in a restaurant. I had shrimps, fried nuts, fried radish cake and some vegetables.
Patient: Okay. Also, I exercised a bit longer today than usual and I was tired. Does this have something to do with my fall?
Nurse: Maybe. I think there are several factors that caused your fell.
Patient: I will be more careful next time. My sore is much better. I want to go home now.
Nurse: Let me accompany you home.
Patient: Thanks.
Comments
Many elder persons especially those in senility (>75 years old) suffer fall in their daily living. The reasons that caused their falls may be due to: pathological factors such as special senses disorders, neurological and cardiovascular diseases, muscular-skeletal problems; environmental factors such as dim and slippery place; psychological factors such as impatience; and dressing factors such as trousers that are too long or shoes that are too big. We should not help a fallen elder up before a thorough check. The causes of Ms. Wang’s fell were related to poor vision, impatience, a dim pathway, and exercising too long.
